Chubut Culture Secretary visits Culturenet Cymru office
On Tuesday, 5 December 2006, Culturenet Cymru received a visit from Jorge Fiori, Culture Secretary of Chubut. Chubut is the province of Argentina in which the Welsh-Patagonian settlements are situated.
Dr Dafydd Tudur, a recently appointed member of the Culturenet Cymru team, gave a brief presentation on Glaniad (www.glaniad.com), a trilingual website that recounts the history of the Welsh settlements in Patagonia.
Señor Fiori had seen some of the photographs that appear on Glaniad at the regional museum in Trevelin, a town in the foothills of the Andes, where he had been Director of Culture for many years. He expressed a keen interest in digitisation and had an opportunity to see some of the Culturenet Cymru staff at work.
As the meeting drew to a close, Señor Fiori was presented with a framed copy of one of the earliest photographs from the Welsh settlement’s history as a memento of his visit to the Culturenet Cymru office.
Señor Fiori intends to revisit Wales in spring 2007 in order to attend the official launch of Glaniad.
